Department of Library & Information Science

 

          Library and Information Department was established in this college in 2013-14. The college has been successfully running Library & Information subject after graduation for one year degree, i.e. Bachelor of Library and Information Science. This is the only college in doaba area running this course affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. There are 152 books in the library written by great Indian and foreign writers. Teachers and students keep pace with the recent development throughout reading material present in the library.

          Methods of teaching used is lecture method which is supplemented by the group discussion. The audio visual aid is used for better teaching learning. To know the problems of the students regarding their studies, tests are given at weekend. From time to time teachers motivate and encourage their students to perform better in the examination and extra curriculum activities. From time to time deptt. arranges ‘Extension Lectures’ which are delivered by the experts of library and information science.

          The faculty of the department guides students at the bachelor level to become leaders in libraries and information centers. The deptt. aims to prepare individuals for positions of responsibility contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field. Every year students bring excellent results and also got position in the university as well as distinctions in the different subjects.The passed out students of B. Lib. & Inf. Sci. also got placed in different school and colleges.

  • Undertook UGC, New Delhi funded Minor Research Project titled, “Printing Press and Development of Punjabi Language, 1849-1919” for the amount of Rs. 1,10,000/ in April 2010.

II. Curriculum Design:

  • Significant contribution in preparing Syllabus for the Under Graduate Course in History as member of Undergraduate Board of Studies in History of Panjab University, Chandigarh for the period 1.4.2009 to 31.3.2013.
