About the Department:

Khalsa College, Garhdiwala District Hoshiarpur came into existence in the year 1966. When the Sikh community was celebrating the third Shatabadi of the tenth Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Dr. M.S. Randhawa, an ICS and a known figure in administration and education and Mahant Sewa Dass Ji, Head of dera Bahadurgarh (Hoshiarpur) took the initiative to establish a college with an objective to educate the people of the backward Kandi area. Presently Khalsa College Garhdiwala is a multi-faculty postgraduate co-educational institution, and its campus is spread over an area of 9 acres of land. The college is housed in a well-maintained building consisting of a spacious hall, smart classrooms, a seminar hall, well-equipped science laboratories, a girls’ hostel, a well-furnished library, computer laboratories, and classrooms.
To inform students about the financial, economic, and business potential in this sector, the Khalsa College, Garhdiwala Department of Commerce was founded in 1997. The department was upgraded into a Post-Graduate Department in 2016 to provide the students of this field with the greatest education facility in the area, keeping in mind the increased interest of the students in commerce and its ever-increasing chances.
The Department of Commerce is one of the biggest departments in the institution with a steadily rising tendency towards excellence. For the benefit of the students, there are large, well-lit, and well-ventilated rooms so that the environment for learning is as high-quality as the instruction being given to them. The faculty in the department is highly skilled and experienced. More than 1,000 standard books by foreign and Indian authors make up the department's core learning resources. For the benefit of underprivileged students, the department maintains its own departmental library. The college has Wi-Fi across its campus, and the library has separate computers for teachers and students to use to access online resources. For the benefit of the teachers and the students, the Department has subscriptions to a number of national and international journals, publications, and newspapers that are connected to the field of business.
The teachers employ audio-visual aids and ICT to enhance their teaching. Through assignments, projects, group debates, and presentations, the students are also encouraged to develop their talents. Students are given occasional home assessments as well as regular class tests to map their performance and identify any areas that need improvement. These examinations, their involvement in class, their performance in presentations, project work, and group discussions are all used to evaluate the students. The performance of the students is frequently reported to the parents and guardians of the students.
In order to help the pupils develop their personalities, extracurricular and extended activities are encouraged. Our students have excelled in zonal and inter-zonal youth festivals, bringing honor to the department. Departmental seminars and quiz competitions are held to display their aptitude for learning. To educate them, a variety of specialist presentations are scheduled. By participating in numerous worldwide and domestic seminars and conferences, the teachers and students stay up to date with the most recent advancements. The department occasionally plans a variety of educational, historical, and religious excursions to offer the students and teachers a break from the daily grind and to refuel and revitalize them both physically and mentally.
After students complete their degree, the Department takes good care of their placement. They are told about the employment and placement options that are available based on their qualifications. To expose the students to the current trends and demands, the Department makes arrangements and drives them to various Job Fests. The department keeps an accurate record of the students who graduate, and they are periodically advised of any job openings.
The admission to the Undergraduate and Post-Graduate classes is as per Panjab University, Chandigarh norms. The procedure is transparent and elaborately explained in the prospectus and the college website.
The Department identifies the slow learners in each class and the gap is bridged with the meritorious students adopting slow learners individually. The teachers take good care of the slow learners through:
