About the Department:

Music (Vocal) Dept. of Khalsa College Garhdiwala came into existence in August 2009. At present Music (Vocal) subject is offered to the students as an elective subject in UG course. There is one lecturer in the department S. Gurpinder Singh is head of department and he has been working at the college since August 2009. He is a M.A. M. Phil. UGC NET (Music Vocal) and ‘Visharad’ Pracheen Kala Kendra Chandigarh. He is specialized in singing and composition work.
Department’s aim is to give them not only the bookish knowledge but also to make them good citizens so that they can contribute to the development of nation. To provide quality music education to the economically and socially backward people of Kandi area. To preserve the great ethics and culture of India and Punjab.

  • Students of B.A.(music) can have music and language (Punjabi, Hindi, English) combination in B.Ed. and can a school teacher
  • After B.A. can go for M.A. NET / M.Phil. / Phd. And can be a college Asst. professor

    Strength:

  • Separate Departmental infrastructure.
  • Separate Departmental Book Bank
  • Various scholarships facilities (like SC ,BC scholarship by government , scholarships for poor and brilliant students by SGPC and by old students) are provided to the students.
  • Our department students learn to think creatively and deeply about some of the most important economic concerns faced by our society today. Maximum student are from rural area and backward community.
  • Cordial relations between teachers and students.

    Weakness:

  • Students are migrating from Punjab to abroad,which is at very higher rate specially in Doaba. So as the college is situated in kandi area of Doaba we are facing many problems associated to it.
  • Two Govt. Colleges are very near to the college affecting the overall strength of students.
  • Less student pursuing higher education.
  • Higher education ‘s current role in society is less valued while expectations are rising.
  • As most of the students belong to rural kandi area where there are limited transport facilities available.

    Opportunities:

  • Providing quality education to society of economically backward and weaker class.
  • Participation of Government officers and social workers as the resource persons in the discussion with students on some topics .
  • To create awareness about various social and economic problems among the students and the society.
  • To participate in welfare activities.

    Challenges:

  • Higher education‘s current role in society is less valued while expectations are rising.
  • Newly opened Government college Dholwaha is very near, which has very low fee structure.
  • To introduce career-oriented and interdisciplinary courses.
  • To create awareness about research in economics among the students.
  • Encouraging students for competitive examinations and for higher studies.
  • To educationally empower the girl students with poor economic background.
