The Fashion Designing Department of Khalsa College, Garhdiwala, came into existence in July 2012. It was introduced as an Add-On Course. In July 2013, it began to be offered as an Elective subject. From the session 2018-19, the department launched B.Sc. (Fashion Designing). At present, students can opt for a proper degree in Fashion Designing (B.Sc. F.D.) and as an Elective subject in B.A. The course follows a semester-based examination system.
The department has well-equipped practical labs with modern equipment, including hand sewing machines, treadle sewing machines, fashion maker machines, Juki stitching machines, overlock machines, and dress forms to keep students up-to-date with their use and impart maximum practical knowledge. Every year, industrial visits are organized for the students to enhance their practical understanding.
There is sufficient reading and illustrative material available for students in the main college library, particularly on illustration, traditional textiles, and basic sewing. There are several books in the main library to ensure students remain well-informed about the latest trends in fashion and advanced techniques in the field.
