 ANTI - RAGGING Cell :

Ragging is a criminal offence as per Karnataka Educational Act 1983 and Honorable Supreme Court of India. Khalsa College, Garhdiwala ensures strict compliance on the prevention of Ragging in any form. As the college students are well aware thatGovt. of India and State Govt. of Punjab have effectively restricted the ragging of recently and newly admitted students in all educational Institutions. According to “Regulation on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions, 2009”and Honorable Supreme Court of India, a strict disciplinary move is to be made against the students enjoying ragging of their newly admitted junior students.Ragging" means "Causing, inducing, compelling or forcing a student, whether by way of practical joke or otherwise, to do any act which detracts from human dignity or violates his/her person or exposes him/her to ridicule from doing any lawful act. By intimidating, wrongfully restraining, wrongfully confining, or injuring him or by using criminal force on him/her or by holding out to him/her any threat of intimidation, wrongful confinement, injury or the use of criminal force" as per Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1999. Punjab Government has also adopted the Punjab Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Bill, 2013, to ban ragging in the state. By anti-ragging 3rd amendment dated 29th June, 2016 in UGC Regulations on Curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 the following have been added to the definition of Ragging - any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of colour, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background.The College is bound by the UGC Regulations on 'Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions 2009'. The college has founded an Anti – Ragging Committee which governs the prevention of any means of Ragging either within or outside the college. There have been no incidents of Ragging at Khalsa College, Garhdiwala till date.

 The following procedures, mechanisms and techniques are embraced by the organization to control ragging among the students:

  • It is clearly mentioned in the college prospectus that ragging, in any form, is completely prohibited in the institution, and anyone found guilty of ragging is liable to be punished as per norms.
  • Notices and warnings regarding ragging are put up at various places in the campus.
  • An undertaking letter is filled up by the students in regard of the prohibition and results of ragging.
  • Centralized Anti Ragging Grievance along with departmental Anti Ragging Grievance sorts out a meeting at the beginning of the college academic session for prevention of ragging in campus.
  • Anti-Ragging Grievance under the supervision of Principle, organizes anti ragging campaigns inside the institute through posters, banners and activities .
  • College Anti – Ragging Grievance arranges awareness drives, posters, banners in the college campus to spread awareness regarding ragging.
  • A team comprising of faculty from various departments stays watchful in all academic blocks, cafeterias, playgrounds etc. to prevent any kind of ragging. This team interacts with the senior and junior students to control ragging in college campus.
  • The institutional authority shall intimate the incidents of ragging occurred in their premises along with actions taken to the Council immediately after occurrence of such incident and inform the status of the case from time to time.
